Women to play games for a good cause
January 28, 2010, Summerville, SC—The American Business Women’s Association (ABWA) Jessamine Chapter, a professional women’s networking group, holds a “Games Night” benefit and silent auction Monday, February 22, from 6-9 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Express, 120 Holiday Drive in Summerville. The event is based on the concept of a “family game night.” Area women are asked to gather their friends, bring their favorite game boards or cards and join the fun. All proceeds from the evening will be donated to the organization’s scholarship fund. A donation of $10 per person is requested. Advanced registration is asked for, but not required. To make reservations call Shirlie Taylor, at 843-873-6769.
Over the years the Jessamine Chapter of the ABWA has donated $100,000 to scholarships for women. ABWA is nationally is recognized for its strong support of the professional development and education of women. ABWA provides scholarships through the Stephen Bufton Memorial Educational Fund (SBMEF), the Association’s national scholarship trust fund. Since its inception, SBMEF has awarded more than 15,250 scholarships totaling more than $15.4 million.
The Jessamine Chapter’s president Kathy Berman said, “Many groups hold silent auctions to raise funds and organize them around cocktail parties. W decided to add more opportunity for networking and fun.” Everyone is invited to come to the event with their favorite board or card game and/or team for a bit of friendly competition. Prizes will be given to the winners at each table and food and beverages will be provided for all to enjoy while playing. The organization hopes to have Bunco players, Pictionary players, Monopoly players and bridge players or any other game of the players’ choice. During the silent auction, everyone can bid to purchase donated items. Items of note in the silent auction are: a weekend vacation at Walter Bailey’s mountain retreat; a gourmet dinner of your choice prepared and served in your home by Comfortable Cuisine; an in-home wine tasting complete with food pairing for up to 14 participants provided by Traveling Vineyard. Berman said, “We will have many more desirable items.” The organization will provide tables, food and a fun atmosphere conducive to lively competition. Berman continued, “Participants just need to bring their games and checkbooks!”

Shirlie has done a great job promoting our upcoming event! Thanks for being a table sponsor. This is going to be a lively night of fun and games–and I mean that in a good way! Ladies, we need to gather our friends, figure out if we’re playing Bunco or Pictionary or Scrabble or Euchre and show up to help raise money for the scholarship fund.
