Minutes of Meeting, October 19, 2009
There were 18 attendees; 13 members and 5 guests.
The meeting was held at Westcott Plantation Golf Clubhouse at 5000 Wescott Club Drive, Summerville, SC.
Sign in and networking began at 6:00 pm, with money for dinner, local dues, the 50/50 and door prize raffle collected during the sign in process by Rebecca Gooden, treasurer and Kathy Berman, president. Members and guests mingled in the dining area until 6:30 when the meeting began.
Dinner was served as the meeting began.
Kathy Berman, president opened the meeting at 6:30 pm with the group reading the mission statement.
Kathy Berman went over the details of our upcoming November Unity meeting between the three local chapters of the ABWA. The meeting will be held at the Pine Forest County Club where we will be ordering from the menu. RSVP’s are needed.
Kathy Berman went on to explain that the November meeting is traditionally one where the Jessamine Chapter gives to a local charity. Five charity’s were suggested, Lowcounty Food Bank, Teachers Supply Closet, Palmetto House, St. Vincent DePaul and My Sisters House. A vote was taken and it was decided that the charity would be the Teachers Supply Closet. Bette Century-Thomas offered to supply the group with a list of the most needed items.
Kathy Berman then went over the details for the December meeting. It will be held the first Monday in December and will include husbands and significant others. There was discussion about a fund raiser.
Special kudos was given to Kathy Spears for her purchase of Foliage Designs, which essentially doubled her business.
Kathy Berman asked our guests to introduce themselves to the group. They were, Tina Drummond of PartyLite Candles, Elizabeth Williams of Illumina Spa, Marie McLeod of the Greater Summerville/Dorchester County Chamber of Commerce, Debbie Maccario of Maggie Rose and Alexis Bowers-Archer of Taghleef Industries.
Shirlie Taylor, of Business Success Dynamics and Carla Jimenez, of Merrill-Lynch presented the group with the Networking Workshop Part II that covered follow-up techniques. There was group participation during the workshop which was very informative.
