August Meeting Minutes

ABWA Jessamine Chapter Minutes of Meeting on August 17, 2009

According to the sign in sheet there were 17 members and 12 guests present.

Meeting was held at New Location, Wescott Plantation just off of Dorchester Road.

Sign in and networking started at 6:00 pm, with money for dinner and local dues collected during signing in by Rebecca Gooden, treasurer. Members and guests mingled in the lobby area until 6:40 then were seated in the dining room.

Kathy Berman, president opened the meeting at 6:45 pm. While dinner was being served, guests and new members introduced themselves and Kudos were announced:

Donna Vellum, owner of Devine Desserts opened a new shop in Summerville.

Cheryl Smithem, of Strategic Marketing and Public Relations, facilitated a press conference in Charleston related to a nationally known racial discrimination case.

The meal was enjoyed.

Carla Jimenez introduced Robert Smith, President and CEO of Goodwill Industries. Mr. Smith gave us a summary of Goodwill’s various missions.

After his discussion, he answered questions from the members/guests.

Kathy Berman introduced Hillary Hutchinson, owner of Hillary Hutchinson and Associates LLC as our member speaker.

Hillary talked about her newest service, coaching women who are experiencing transitions, called Transitioning your life, with a focus on those working in the academic fields.

Announcements:

Donna Vellon announced that she will showcase her “Devine Treats” at the Turtlebox in Mt. Pleasant.

Cheryl Smithem, owner of Strategic Marketing and Public Relations, announced that her firm was selected to conduct a press conference on Tuesday, August 18th at 10 am regarding a racial discrimination law suit overturned granting workers the ability to file as a class action law suit. The story will be covered by local television stations.

Door Prize: One of our guests won the 50/50 raffle of $26.00
